You may have noticed that we haven’t posted much about the schedule for Stimulus Payments. At first it was because it was information that was readily available elsewhere, but after a while, I started hear that there were some issues with people not receiving the payments on time, or in the amounts that they expected. I always “had a feeling” that the schedule was somewhat fluid.
Is the IRS to blame for departing from the published schedule? I don’t think so. Look at it this way — Congress passes a bill in December, and the IRS has got to figure out all the details for implementing a plan incorporating millions (perhaps billions) of data elements. In all, the IRS has done a pretty good job of planning and implementing.
IRS might be our headache, but congress is the IRS’ headache.
